English summary: At first sight, the Fourth Commandment seems to be an unalterable foundation of biblical ethics. However it is Jesus himself who leaves his natural family and calls his disciples to start a new life, creating a new community of believers. Harry Jungbauer analyzes the meaning of the Fourth Commandment and then shows the development it takes through the texts in biblical tradition. He examines canonical texts and also ancient Oriental sources, pagan-Hellenistic authors and especially the broad spectrum of Palestinian-Jewish and Jewish-Hellenistic texts. The author presents the texts analyzed in detail in their original language and in a translation. The final chapter is an appeal to the reader to reflect on new forms of our ‘social contract’. This book provides a good exegetic basis for dealing with the Fourth Commandment in school and in church. Im Neuen Testament wird es im Epheserbrief hervorgehoben als eines der Gebote, die eine besondere Bedeutung fur die soziale Praxis haben. Die durchgehende Bezugnahme auf dieses Gebot lasst den Eindruck entstehen, es sei einer der unumstosslichen Grundsatze der biblischen Tradition. Zugleich aber ist dieses Gebot in der Bibel zwischen den Generationen immer wieder strittig. Es wird mit den unterschiedlichsten Motivationen fur das Elterngebot geworben – oder aber mit Strafen und Verfluchungen gedroht. Handelt nicht selbst Jesus gegen das Gebot, als er seine naturliche Familie verlasst? Er stiftet seine Junger ebenfalls dazu an und grundet so eine neue Familie der Glaubenden.Harry Jungbauer zeichnet den Weg des Elterngebots in der biblischen Tradition nach und zeigt auf, was jeweils darunter zu verstehen war, Vater und Mutter zu ‘ehren’. Dabei wird nicht nur die gesamte Bibel von der Genesis bis zu den Katholischen Briefen berucksichtigt. Der Autor beschaftigt sich zusatzlich mit altorientalischen Quellen, mit nichtjudischen griechischen Autoren und vor allem mit dem breiten Spektrum palastinisch-judischer und judisch-hellenistischer Schriften, die zeitlich und traditionsgeschichtlich zwischen den beiden Testamenten des Kanons einzuordnen sind. Alle grundlegenden Quellentexte sind abgedruckt, ubersetzt und ausfuhrlich erklart.Es entsteht auf diese Weise ein eindrucksvolles Bild von der Geschichte des Elterngebots. Vom aktualisierenden Schlusskapitel ausgehend regt dieser Band dazu an, grundlegende Antworten auf die aktuelle Frage des ‘Generationenvertrags’ zu formulieren. So bietet diese Studie eine exegetische Grundlage fur die Thematisierung des Elterngebots in der pastoralen und padagogischen Praxis.
