English summary: Numerous excellently trained architects shaped the reconstruction of cities destroyed by World War II. One of them is Egon Hartmann (1919-2009) – he worked both in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and the Federal Republic of Germany (FRD). Weimar, Berlin, Mainz and finally Munich were his career stages. The extensive oeuvre of the urban planner and architect receives a retrospective recognition with the exhibition in the Mainz State museum, which the talented drawer and designer was denied during his lifetime. It discovers his buildings and designs that are between modernity and traditionalism, worth seeing examples of an exquisite post-war modernity. The volume documents the exhibition with maps, photographs of the models and founds contributions on biography and work as well as a classification in the context of the preservation of historical monuments in Mainz.
