Die Zeit des Babylonischen Exils (597/587-520 v.Chr.) gehort zu den spannendsten Epochen der biblischen Geschichte. In ihr geriet Israel in seine wohl tiefste Krise, in ihr wurde aber auch der Grundstein fur seine durchgreifendste Erneuerung gelegt. Die Krise setzte eine bluhende Anlass (u.a. Klagen, Heilsworte, Volkerworte), neue Prophetenbucher wurden geschrieben (Ezechiel und Deuterojesaja) und viele alte unter den bedrangenden Erfahrungen grundlegend redigiert (u.a. Jeremia, Hosea, Amos). Angesichts des drohenden Abbruchs der Geschichte wurden erstmals grossere Erzahl- und Geschichtswerke verfasst (Vatergeschichte, Deuteronomistisches Geschichtswerk). Schwerer greifbar ist die historische Entwicklung dieser Zeit, dennoch wird der Versuch gemacht, den sozialen und politischen Hintergrund der exilischen Schriften und ihrer theologischen Entwurfe soweit wie moglich aufzuhellen.
