Gegenstand der Untersuchung ist ein “Concordantz alt vnd news Testaments” betiteltes Buch, das 1550 in Wien erschien. Es enthalt einen Radierungszyklus des Nurnberger Kunstlers Augustin Hirschvogel (1503-53). Die 238 Illustrationen stellen Begebenheiten aus der Bibel dar, die nach dem Prinzip der Typologie aufgebaut sind: Zugrunde liegt die mittelalterliche Vorstellung, wonach jedes Ereignis aus der Lebens? und Leidensgeschichte Christi im Neuen Testament bereits durch eines oder mehrere Ereignisse im Alten Testament vorweggenommen und angekundigt (prafiguriert) wurde.
