Apostolos Bousdroukis nous invite a decouvrir les villes fondees par les successeurs d’Alexandre le Grand – tels qu’Antigone et Seleucos Ier (vers 315-280 av. J.-C.) – dans une vaste region s’etendant du Proche-Orient mediterraneen a la vallee de l’Indus (actuel Pakistan). L’ouvrage se concerne sur les cites portant le nom de villes de Macedoine, partie des colons qui les peuplaient a l’epoque hellenistique. Pour chacune de ces villes, l’auteur presente avec soin leurs institutions civiques et sociales, ainsi que les principaux monuments publics reveles par les fouilles archeologiques. Il s’interesse egalement aux interactions riches et complexes entre les traditions locales et celles importees par les colons, que l’on retrouve dans l’architecture palatiale, sacree et domestique, ainsi que dans les pratiques cultuelles. Cette exploration minutieuse permet de mieux comprendre comment ces villes sont devenues des carrefours d’echanges culturels et d’innovation. A travers cet ouvrage, le lecteur est invite a redecouvrir un monde en pleine transformation, ou le passe macedonien se mele aux traditions locales pour forger des identites nouvelles.
