Although little known today, Haimo of Auxerre was one of the most popular biblical exegetes of the Middle Ages. His commentaries on almost every book of the Bible were not only a prime conduit for the teaching of the Church Fathers to the later Middle Ages, they were major shapers in and of themselves of medieval theology. His commentary on the Pauline Epistles was his most popular work: theologians from Remigius of Auxerre to Jan Hus made use of this seminal work. Drawing on exegetes from Augustine to Claudius of Turin, Haimo crafts a commentary that later generations would treat as the standard interpretation of Paul. This is the first translation into English of this vital work, and includes an introduction as well as notes on sources and points of interest for students of theology and history.
