Bernard (a 1472), Benedictine monk of Tegernsee, was one of the leading thinkers of the 15th century reform of Melk (Austria), which more than 100 Benedictine monasteries in Austria, Bavaria and Swabia followed until 1470. His writings as well as his correspondence with Nicolaus Cusanus and Nicholas of Dinkelsbuhl show Bernard as a reformer seeking the renewal of monasticism and the Roman church. For the first time, in this book Bernard’s partly inedited theological writings are analyzed in their contemporary context as well as in their reception of medieval scholastic and monastic theology. The book is the first monographic study on Bernard, his writings and the theology of the late medieval monastic movement of Melk. Bernhard von Waging aus dem Kloster Tegernsee war einer der bekanntesten Vertreter der benediktinischen Reformbewegung von Melk. Er wirkte nicht nur als praktischer Reformer, sondern vor allem als Autor theologischer Reformschriften. Auch seine Korrespondenz mit Nikolaus von Kues und Nikolaus von Dinkelsbuhl zeigt sein Anliegen einer Kloster- und Kirchenreform. Die Autorin untersucht Bernhards theologische Schriften in ihrem zeitgenossischen Kontext und in der Rezeption scholastischer wie monastischer Theologie. Sie legt mit dieser Arbeit die erste Monographie zu Bernhard von Waging vor und bietet aus der Untersuchung auch unedierter lateinischer Schriften eine neue Perspektive auf die Reformdiskussion des 15. Jahrhunderts und die spatmittelalterliche monastische Theologie.
