Entwicklung einer standardisierten Zeichenschrift zur Analyse und Vermittlung archaologischer Funde und Befunde

English summary: Tangible and intangible cultural assets are no longer regarded merely as testimonies of past cultures, but are examined in their context for social and economic aspects of earlier societies. From this perspective, the description and presentation of finds and findings play a central role in making contexts visible and in understanding new findings. However, the corresponding methods of representation-moving away from the observation of individual things to the investigation of cultural contexts-are lagging behind, since modern information visualizations that would be suitable for this purpose have hardly been developed and used thus far. This publication presents methods that are equally suitable for scientific research and knowledge transfer. Of central importance in this context is the specially developed “Diglu” font with more than 400 embedded pictograms, which enables a designer-independent application and data analysis. Presented are presentation principles, measures from the field of visual communication, and methods of information design. The use of Diglu is demonstrated in maps, a Harris matrix, and a database, as well as in novel methods of presentation using information graphics. In addition to the presentation of the scientific foundations, there are numerous examples of applications in the field of Near Eastern archaeology and instructions for the use of the methods. German description:Materielle und immaterielle Kulturguter werden nicht mehr nur als Zeugnisse vergangener Kulturen angesehen, sondern in ihrem Kontext auf soziale und okonomische Aspekte fruherer Gesellschaften untersucht. Aus dieser Perspektive spielen die Beschreibung und Darstellung von Funden und Befunden eine zentrale Rolle fur das Sichtbarmachen von Zusammenhangen und fur das Verstandnis neuer Erkenntnisse. Die entsprechenden Darstellungsmethoden – weg von der Betrachtung einzelner Dinge hin zur Erforschung kultureller Zusammenhange – hinken dabei jedoch hinterher, da moderne Informationsvisualisierungen, die hierfur geeignet waren, bislang kaum entwickelt und genutzt wurden. Fabienne Kilchor prasentiert in ihrer Publikation Verfahren, die gleichermassen fur die wissenschaftliche Forschung als auch fur die Wissensvermittlung geeignet sind. Von zentraler Bedeutung ist dabei die eigens entwickelte Zeichenschrift “Diglu” mit uber 400 in eine Schreibschrift eingebetteten Piktogrammen, die eine gestalterunabhangige Anwendung und Datenanalyse ermoglicht. Prasentiert werden Darstellungsprinzipien, Massnahmen aus dem Bereich der visuellen Kommunikation und Methoden des Informationsdesigns. Die Verwendung von Diglu wird in Karten, einer Harris-Matrix und einer Datenbank ebenso vorgefuhrt wie bei neuartigen Darstellungsmethoden mittels Informationsgrafiken. Neben der Darlegung der wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen finden sich zahlreiche Anwendungsbeispiele aus dem Bereich der Vorderasiatischen Archaologie und Anleitungen fur die Nutzung der Verfahren.
