English summary: This anthology offers the proceedings of a conference held in February 2014 at the Philipps-University in Marburg. The goal of this meeting was to examine the connection between economy and culture in antiquity in the period between 2000 BCE and 500 CE, which focused on culturally specific valuation and control systems that were related to economic activity of the ancient world as they appear in ancient sources. A second central issue discussed in these articles is the way in which cultural factors influence economic acts and how these, in turn, return to influence culture. The articles come from a variety of fields of economic study and integrate new theories and models for ancient societies, especially the “New Institutional Economics” which seeks to integrate cultural and economic acts to understand changes in society and culture.
