The first part of this volume examines the apocryphal texts that were only rediscovered in modern times (in particular the Nag Hammadi finds) and examines them with regard to their reception of gender-relevant biblical passages. A second part is dedicated to the infancy gospels and Acts of the Apostles, including the Gospel of James and the Act of Thekla, Andrew, and Peter. The third part deals with the texts and traditions in which women speak as authors, including the Passion of Perpetua, the poems of Proba and Eudokia, and the pilgrimage account of Egeria, and analyzes their reception of biblical women’s texts.
