The present volume is the first Reader ever dedicated to ‘Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulusi’s writings, one of the major intellectual figures of the late seventeenth- to early eighteenth-century Islamicate world. It follows a thematic structure, reflecting the multi-disciplinary character of his rich scholarly world and offering a glimpse into his theological, legal, and mystical thought. Each text by Nabulusi included in this volume appears with a general description of the work and a short introduction to the theme(s) discussed in the selected passages, followed by the Arabic original, and an annotated translation in English. Some chapters include texts that are first critical editions of hitherto unpublished works of Nabulusi, while many others are new editions of previously published texts. The Reader is a gateway not only to Nabulusi, but to his intellectual world and scholarship.
