Entreprendre de definir ce qu’est un monde repond au besoin d’eclaircir un concept plurivoque, qui renvoie tout autant a la cloture de notre sphere personnelle, a l’Univers, ou au mouvement planetaire d’ouverture des echanges et des idees qu’est la mondialisation . Faut-il admettre comme legitimes tous les emplois du concept de monde – on parle en biologie du monde vegetal , en sociologie du monde ouvrier , en theorie litteraire du monde de Balzac – ou reconnaitre au contraire un degre privilegie de realite pour lequel il y a authentiquement monde ? Faut-il par ailleurs accepter la pretention du concept de monde a l’unicite de son objet? En choisissant de nous interroger sur ce qu’est un monde , nous mettons explicitement a l’epreuve l’idee que le monde est par definition singulier.
