The long nineteenth century was the century of mobilization in favor of the introduction and expansion of the right to vote in Mediterranean Europe. Through specific case studies, this volume intends to analyze the methods of grassroots participation developed and tested between 1818 and 1919 in favor of the right to vote. The liberal season of the first decades of the nineteenth century, the revolutionary phase of the European Forty-Eight, the movement in favor of women’s suffrage and the introduction of the right to vote for men recognized by the Giolitti Government in 1919 are the four historical moments on which the volume focuses, presented by unpublished and interconnected research.
