English summary: The Baptists are a global free church denomination whose theology developed out of the Reformation and has its own distinctive features. Similarities and differences with other strands of Protestant theology are readily apparent, especially regarding Baptism and Lord’ Supper (Eucharist). The author discusses not only the theology of the German-speaking Baptists, but also that of the English-speaking Baptist theologians. The book contains self-critical reflection and further development of theological positions. It also includes several studies on Baptist involvement in ecumenical dialogues. It is relevant to members of free churches as well as to theologians from other churches who are interested in confessional and ecumenical studies.
