Zwischen Eindeutigkeit und Ambiguitat
Interdisziplinare Perspektiven auf Religion in der Moderne
edited by Katharina Worn, Marie-Elisabeth Perschthaler and Mirjam Sauer
Is religion an expression of late modernity’s longing for clarity, or does it open up spaces for tolerance of ambiguity and diversity? This interdisciplinary anthology examines religion as an ambiguous phenomenon at the intersection of theology, cultural studies and social sciences. Beyond common attributions – such as an indicator of growing tolerance for ambiguity or authoritarian unambiguity – religion itself is understood as an active site of production, reflection and processing of ambiguity. Contributions from various denominational theologies, philosophy of religion, literary and music studies, and social ethics open up new perspectives on the relationship between religion, ambiguity and clarity in (late) modernity.
