The coexistence and cooperation of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit – later described as the Trinity – and the omnipotence of God occupy a central position in the creeds of the early centuries. However, the doctrines of omnipotence and the Trinity have been and continue to be the subject of debate. This study addresses the question of how the power of the triune God can be conceived as ‘trinitarian omnipotence.’ Specifically, three systematic-theological models – those of Eberhard Jungel, Wolfhart Pannenberg and Joseph Bracken – are discussed individually and in relation to one another. All three develop a decidedly Trinitarian image of God, but show fundamental differences in their understanding of God’s (omni)powerful action.
