English summary: The ongoing debate in Germany about a consensus between the Roman Catholic and the Lutheran churches concerning the article on justification, which Jorg Baur had joined with a pronounced contribution as early as 1989, has recently, in the dispute about the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification of 1995, engaged the interest and attention of the general public, causing irritation as well. In his lectures of 1997 and 1998, written for a general educated audience, Baur analyses the theologico-political context of the Joint Declaration and discusses its specific problems. The envisioned consensus-ecumenicalism is examined in the light of the insights of the Lutheran reformation in such a way that the truth of the gospel reveals its capacity as a liberating force for the secular consciousness, free from an confessionalistic self-assertiveness. German description: In den hier versammelten Gemeinde- und Akademievortragen, gehalten in den Jahren 1997 und 1998, informiert Jorg Baur uber die theologiepolitischen Hintergrunde und okumenischen Absichten der in der Offentlichkeit kontrovers diskutierten ‘Gemeinsamen Erklarung zur Rechtfertigung’ von 1995. Er erortert die Erklarung im Kontext der religiosen Situation unserer sakularisierten Gesellschaft und des von dogmatischen Traditionen abgekoppelten Bewusstseins der Basis in den beiden Grosskirchen. Bei der Analyse des theologiepolitischen Umfeldes dieses okumenischen Textes zeigt er, dass die Konstruktion einer Grundubereinstimmung den konfessionellen Zwiespalt nicht uberbrucken kann. Zusatzlich arbeitet er die gegenwartigen Schwierigkeiten mit dem Zentralartikel der Reformation heraus und legt dessen Grundlagen bei Martin Luther frei. Dabei stellt er dar, dass es trotz der Differenzen zu einem von gegenseitigen Verurteilungen freien Verhaltnis der Kirchen kommen kann, die, ohne Rechthaberei oder Anpassung, allen Zeitgenossen das Evangelium schulden.
