Because of the unpredicted development of computer hardware and software during the last 20 years, it is not only possible to typologically record the entire archaeological material finds of a culture with our photo data bank “Montelius”, in this case that of the Avars, but together with the program WinSerion it is possible to analyse them easily. The search for similarities between findings, one of the most time-consuming aspects of archaeology, now takes a mere thirty seconds thanks to Montelius. Typological analysis can also be done much more quickly and thoroughly.
