Passagen und Stationen
Lebensstufen zwischen Mittelalter und Moderne
by Kaspar von Greyerz
English summary: In the early modern age, people considered their lives as a religious sequence, a consequence of human life stages. How were people influenced by this world view? How did they picture the seven stages in life? A new view on only partially known facts, promises Kaspar von Greyerz with his history of life stages in the 16th and 17th century. This first comprehensive depiction of human age and rituals in early modern times is mainly based on diaries, autobiographies and family chronicles. The author creates vivid pictures of his often nameless protagonists and their seven stages in life: birth, childhood, youth, marrying, marriage, old age and death. Kaspar von Greyerz allows a great view on the middle ages just crossing the line to modernity. German text.
