This study focuses on four geographical processions from the temples of Philae, Dendera, and Athribis (from which stem two previously unpublished examples) with heavily Osirian character. Apart from the text located in Dendara, none of these processions have been translated or commented upon. After an introductory chapter on the placement of the processions, the content of the introduction scenes, detailed notes on the text structure and the relationship between the four processions, the special role of Osiris is analyzed and placed within a model of productive, philologically-based mythology. The main part of the volume is constituted by an exhaustive comment of the procession texts, categorized according to the 42 Egyptian nomes. German text.

German description: Gegenstand der im Rahmen des Heidelberger Akademieprojekts ‘Der Tempel als Kanon der religiosen Literatur Agyptens’ vorgelegten Untersuchung sind insgesamt vier geographische Prozessionen aus den Tempeln von Philae, Dendara und Athribis (dort zwei bislang unpublizierte Versionen), die einen stark osirianischen Charakter aufweisen. Bis heute existieren von diesen Prozessionen – mit Ausnahme des Textes in Dendara – weder Ubersetzung noch Kommentar. Christian Leitz widmet sich in Band 8 der Studien zur spatagyptischen Religion eingehend diesen geographisch-osirianischen Prozessionen. Nach einem einleitenden Kapitel mit Angaben zur Positionierung der Prozessionen, zum Inhalt der Einfuhrungsszenen, detaillierten Hinweisen zur Textstruktur und zum Verhaltnis der vier Prozessionen zueinander wird die besondere Rolle des Osiris herausgestellt und das Modell einer produktiven philologisch-basierten Mythologie entwickelt. Der Hauptteil besteht aus einer umfassenden nach den 42 agyptischen Gauen geordneten Kommentierung der Prozessionstexte, bei der der Schwerpunkt der lokalen Mythologie gilt. Umfangreiche Indices schliessen das Werk ab.
