English summary: Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946) was a prolific painter, best-known for producing a series of self-portraits in which she exposed the feminine nature of her psyche, endlessly exploring it to the point of “scratching it down to the bone,” thereby disclosing what makes art a rejection of representation, an obstinate inner call for figures based upon nothing.
