This volume completes the Critical Spalding Edition, of which a total of 13 volumes have been published continuously since 2001. It is a collection of 19 of Johann Joachim Spalding’s sermons which are an excellent representation of the homiletic zenith of neology.
English summary: With this volume the Spalding Critical Edition, whose total of thirteen volumes have been appearing successively since 2001, comes to its completion. This volume contains 19 sermons, which Johann Joachim Spalding only published separately, or as part of other anthologies of edited works, but none of which were included in his own sermon collection. The sermons range from the 1757 farewell-sermon that Spalding gave at his departure from his first pastoral post in Lassan (Vorpommern), to the sublime and aloof memorial sermon for Frederick II (the Great) of Prussia, to a sermon published in a collection of sermons in 1799, which also contained the first published sermon of Friedrich Schleiermacher. Overall, this volume offers a high-quality series of texts that are excellent representatives of the homiletic arts in the age of the German Enlightenment. German description: Mit diesem Band ist die Kritische Spalding-Ausgabe, deren insgesamt 13 Bande seit dem Jahre 2001 kontinuierlich erscheinen konnten, vollendet. Er versammelt 19 Predigten, die Johann Joachim Spalding einst lediglich separat oder als Teil einer von anderen Herausgebern edierten Anthologie publiziert, jedoch in keine von ihm selbst besorgte Predigtsammlung eingeruckt hatte. In zeitlicher Hinsicht spannt sich der Bogen von der 1757 gehaltenen Abschiedspredigt, mit der Spalding aus seiner ersten, in Lassan (Vorpommern) versehenen Pfarrstelle schied, uber die sublim distanzierte Gedachtnispredigt auf Friedrich II. von Preussen bis zu einer 1799 publizierten Predigtsammlung, in die zugleich die erste gedruckte Kanzelrede Friedrich Schleiermachers eingegangen war. Insgesamt wird in diesem Band ein Reigen hochkaratiger, die homiletische Blutezeit der Neologie in exzellenter Weise reprasentierender Kanzelreden prasentiert.
