English summary: Using literary, archeological, numismatic and epigraphic evidence, Monika Bernett examines the form and the effects of the imperial cult in Judea under the Herodians and the Romans. King Herod established the imperial cult early on as part of a new style of Jewish rule. The endowments for buildings and the founding of cities, which were related to the imperial cult, were part of a multifunctional network of relationships: public responses to the good deeds of the princeps, publicizing the good relationship to Rome as well as acting as a sovereign euerget, who might expect goodwill. The author also demonstrates why the imperial cult must be seen as a point of reference for the increasingly radical criticism of the Roman rule and why it must be included in the history of the Jewish revolt. Konig Herodes etablierte den Kaiserkult nicht nur fruh, sondern auch als Teil eines neuartigen judischen Herrschaftsstils. Er generalisierte das Handlungs- und Beziehungsfeld hellenistischer Euergesie und bezog den Kaiser und dessen Familie, die paganen und judischen Untertanen seines Reichs sowie Juden und Nicht-Juden ausserhalb Judaas mit ein. Die kaiserkultbezogenen Baustiftungen und Stadtgrundungen folgten dabei nicht Schmeichelei oder Hellenisierungsabsichten, sondern waren Teil eines multifunktionalen Beziehungsgeflechtes: offentliche Antwort auf Wohltaten des princeps , Bekanntmachen der guten Beziehungen zu Rom sowie Agieren als herrscherlicher Euerget, der Wohlwollen erwarten darf. Unter Herodes’ Nachfolgern bzw. Judaa unter direkter romischer Herrschaft kam es zur Fortsetzung und Aktualisierung des Kultes. Anhand literarischer, archaologischer, numismatischer und epigraphischer Zeugnisse ordnet die Autorin die einzelnen kultrelevanten Stiftungen und Handlungen in ihre politischen Zusammenhange ein und analysiert deren widerspruchlichen Auswirkungen, insbesondere auf die Juden. Denn die mit dem Kult einhergehende Bilderflut und die sakrale Uberhohung des Kaiserbildnisses forderten das judische Bilderverbot in vollig neuer Weise seit dem Hellenismus heraus. Fur Juden, die Judaa konkret als Land Jahwes begriffen, bedeutete der Kaiserkult eine torawidrige Konkurrenz zum Alleinverehrungsanspruch Jahwes. Deshalb wird man den Kaiserkult als einen Bezugspunkt der sich radikalisierenden Kritik an der romischen Herrschaft ansehen und in die Vorgeschichte des Judischen Aufstands miteinbeziehen mussen.
