Im Flecken Bad Zurzach wurden Hauserrenovationen, Umbauten, Abbruch- und Aushubarbeiten in den vergangenen 60 Jahren vom Buro Sennhauser – heute Stiftung fur Forschung in Spatantike und Mittelalter – systematisch begleitet und dokumentiert sowie erganzend die geschichtlichen Hintergrunde zu den Bauten aufgearbeitet. Aus diesem historisch-archaologischen Grundbuch, das im Staatsarchiv Aargau deponiert ist, werden fur die vorliegende Publikation 70 vor 1900 entstandene Gebaude exemplarisch vorgestellt (Redaktion Eckart Kuhne). Der jungere Baubestand Bad Zurzachs bis um 1950 wird von Thomas Farber und Dorothee Huber nach einzelnen Siedlungseinheiten zusammenfassend beschrieben und eingeordnet. Ausserdem stellt Luisa Galioto die Ergebnisse der neueren Bodenaufschlusse durch die Kantonsarchaologie Aargau vor. Aufsatze von Alfred Hidber und Hans Rudolf Sennhauser zu ausgewahlten ubergreifenden Themen – wie Der Flecken am Strassenkreuz und seine Hafenvorstadt, Zurzacher Besonderheiten und Namen der Zurzacher Hauser und ihrer Besitzer – sowie ein Panorama der Strassenfassaden runden das Werk ab.
