English summary: The municipal reorganization changed the municipal map of North Rhine-Westphalia on a historic scale. By law, the Dusseldorf State Parliament dissolved a total of almost two thousand independent cities and municipalities, many of them centuries old, and merged them into larger municipal territorial units. Was there a say and did people develop a new identity as a result of the new communes?
