In March 1945, soldiers of the V-Waffen-Division under the command of SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Hans Kammler murdered 208 foreign forced labourers in the Sauerland region. The author not only reconstructs the massacres, but also examines the first Allied investigations, the legal prosecution by the German authorities and the difficult way in which the region dealt with the culture of remembrance.
Marcus Weidner, Dr., ist Wissenschaftlicher Referent am LWL-Institut für Westfälische Regionalgeschichte in Münster. Seine Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind Westfälische Geschichte, Erinnerungskultur, NS-Zeit und Digital Humanities. Er ist Mitglied der Historischen Kommission für Westfalen.
