English summary: Christoph vom Brocke deals with the visit of the Apostle Paul to Thessalonica during his second missionary journey and with the history of the city itself, which was founded by the Macedonian king, Cassander. He begins by focusing on the results of recent archeological research on ancient Thessalonica, its monuments, its society and its economy and in particular on the Pauline era, the first century after Christ. He continues by expanding upon certain aspects of local history on the basis of material from antiquity and relating them to selected passages from 1 Thessalonians and the Thessalonica pericope of the Acts of the Apostles. German description: Der Besuch des Apostels Paulus in Thessaloniki wahrend seiner zweiten Missionsreise und die Geschichte dieser vom makedonischen Konig Kassander gegrundeten Stadt stehen im Mittelpunkt dieser Studie. Christoph vom Brocke sammelt zunachst die Ergebnisse der neueren archaologischen Forschung im Blick auf das antike Thessaloniki, seine Monumente, seine Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft und fokussiert sie speziell auf die Zeit des Paulus, beziehungsweise auf das 1. Jahrhundert nach Christus. Danach werden auf der Grundlage antiken Materials bestimmte Aspekte der Lokalgeschichte herausgearbeitet und mit ausgewahlten Stellen des 1. Thessalonicherbriefes und der Thessaloniki-Perikope der Apostelgeschichte in Beziehung gesetzt. Christoph vom Brocke behandelt unter anderem den religiosen und kultischen Hintergrund der jungen christlichen Gemeinde von Thessaloniki und die Frage nach den Urhebern der Verfolgungen, denen die ‘Thessalonicher’ ausgesetzt waren.Ausserdem untersucht er neben den lokalen Gegebenheiten fur die Reise des Paulus nach Thessaloniki auch die Historizitat der Angaben in der Apostelgeschichte: er diskutiert die antiken Zeugnisse uber die Existenz einer judischen Gemeinde in Thessaloniki ebenso eingehend wie die juristischen Voraussetzungen fur das Verfahren gegen den Gastgeber des Paulus. Gerade die Zusammenstellung und Auswertung der Angaben uber Namen und Personen der fruhen christlichen Gemeinde von Thessaloniki ist im Hinblick auf die Soziologie des Urchristentums von grossem Interesse.
