Faut-il reserver l’enseignement de la philosophie a ceux qui se destinent a en faire profession? Ne faut-il enseigner la philosophie qu’aux futurs philosophes? La technicite croissante de celle-ci, son obscurite meme en certaines ecoles ou auteurs contemporains, pourraient conduire a en reduire l’audience a un cercle tres etroit d’inities. Les Grecs distinguaient deja entre deux formes de philosophie: l’exoterique et l’esoterique. Les auteurs des articles ici rassembles, de traditions differentes, ont ete sensibles non seulement a la necessite de rendre la philosophie accessible a tous sans que soient negligees ses exigences fondamentales, mais aussi a celle de l’ouvrir, par un dialogue permanent, aux autres disciplines. Les progres croissants des sciences et des techniques obligent aujourd’hui le philosophe a se poser, a nouveaux frais, la question de l’homme qui demeure sa visee fondamentale et a laquelle nul ne saurait etre indifferent. On comprendra alors que la haute figure de Socrate, sa methode de philosopher, aient inspire ici textes et debats et donne son titre a cet ouvrage.
