English summary: As part of the project on the Elbe Slavs, extensive interdisciplinary fieldwork was carried out in the mid-Elbe region around Lenzen and in southwest Mecklenburg between 2004 and 2009. The results, which are presented in this volume in the form of 34 contributions, not only demonstrate the significant increase in knowledge with regard to settlement structures and processes and changes to the landscape at that time, but they also show that the region along the lower middle Elbe can only be seen as an area of historical settlement based on the findings of various different projects. German description: Im Rahmen des Elbslawen-Projektes erfolgten in der Mittelelbregion auf der Hohe von Lenzen sowie im sudwestlichen Mecklenburg zwischen 2004 und 2009 umfangreiche interdisziplinare Gelandearbeiten. Die im vorliegenden Band in Form von 34 Beitragen prasentierten Ergebnisse belegen nicht nur den erheblichen Erkenntniszuwachs in Bezug auf Besiedlungsstrukturen, -vorgange und den damaligen Landschaftswandel, sondern sie zeigen auch, dass die Region entlang der unteren Mittelelbe nur projektubergreifend als ein historischer Siedlungsraum betrachtet werden kann.
