Ivan sismanov (1862-1928) was one of Bulgaria’s most important scholars and cultural politicians. His lectures held at the University of Freiburg in German (1923/24) were reconstructed by the editors on the basis of sismanov’s manuscripts and notes. The focus lies on cultural cliches and the fragility of peaceful coexistence between the European peoples and not least among the Slavs themselves.
