There has been a reception of psychological theories and psychotherapeutic methods by pastoral care already for a long time. But methods of cognitive behavioral therapy have been considered within the German-speaking area only marginally. In the field of academic psychological research instead these methods are dominant since decades and prove to be very efficient in the treatment of many different psychological disorders. Therefore, this study engages from the perspective of pastoral care in a constructively critical dialogue with theories and methods of cognitive behavioral therapy. It focuses on the theological-anthropological aspects of freedom, on the topic ‘efficiency’, and on more methodical questions regarding conversation techniques. The objective is a ‘psychological informed pastoral care’.
