English summary: The fundamental questions about the production, distribution, and reception of legal manuscripts are undertaken in this interdisciplinary book, especially on the basis of texts that are now housed in the library of the University of Halle, in particular, texts from the cathedral library of Halberstadt and the collegiate church of Our Lady. From this series of texts, the following interrelated questions are discussed: When and for what reasons were the legal manuscripts collected? Through what geographic and institution ways were the manuscripts transferred, and which actors were involved? What role did Halberstadt’s educational institutions, their institutional history, and their forms of organization play in the development of the context of the manuscripts? What information does the codex reveal about the materiality of its use? Consequently, the investigations in this volume splendidly place the various collections of high-level institutions of the Middle Ages within the context of modern research. Therefore, the essays in this anthology consider in detail the constitution of the collections and the phenomenon associated with them, such as the work tradition, acquisition and transportation of the manuscripts (and prints) as well as the professional and academic demand for legal codices. The consideration of the Halberstadt collection of legal manuscripts is able to be newly evaluated from the perspective of cultural exchange, human mobility, and scholarly communication. This series of studies is rounded out with case studies about the legal manuscripts in the Herzog-August Library, the city of Trier and from Catalonia. German description: Die grundlegenden Fragen der Produktion, der Distribution und der Rezeption juristischer Handschriften werden in diesem interdisziplinar angelegten Band insbesondere anhand der heute in der Universitatsbibliothek Halle aufbewahrten juristischen Texte aus der Halberstadter Dombibliothek und der Stiftskirche Unserer Lieben Frau beleuchtet.Dabei werden folgende Fragenkomplexe diskutiert: Wann und aus welchen Grunden und Motiven wurden die Rechtshandschriften gesammelt? Wo verliefen die geografischen und institutionellen Wege des Handschriftentransfers, welche Akteure waren beteiligt? Welche Rolle spielten die Halberstadter Bildungseinrichtungen, ihre Institutionengeschichte, ihre Organisationsformen und die dort vermittelten Inhalte? Welche Aufschlusse gibt der Codex in der Materialitat seiner Benutzung? Somit reihen sich die Untersuchungen in diesem Band trefflich in moderne Forschungen zu verschiedenen Bestanden hochrangiger Institutionen des Mittelalters ein. Dabei geht es um die Wege der Konstituierung der Sammlungen und die damit verbundenen Phanomene wie Werkuberlieferung, Ankauf und Transport von Handschriften (und Drucken) sowie den beruflichen und universitaren Bedarf an Rechtscodices im Einzelnen. Damit kann der Stellenwert der Halberstadter Sammlung von Rechtshandschriften neu bestimmt und aus der Perspektive des Kulturaustausches, der menschlichen Mobilitat und der gelehrten Kommunikation gesehen werden. Fallstudien zu Rechtshandschriften in der Herzog August Bibliothek, in Trier und Katalonien runden den Band ab.
