This edition analyzes the different aspects of the work and, by establishing the basis of the text on a corpus of manuscripts, also explains its history, clarifies various issues of interpretation, and provides a translation meant to simplify the complex variations of a style often altered in the search of an exaggerated popular vulgarism. Illustration possible d’une litterature comico-licencieuse aujourd’hui perdue, mais dont les Satyrica de Petrone peuvent proposer un echo dans le domaine narratif, litterature dans laquelle la uis comica du grotesque et du burlesque s’integre dans un fonds culturel, les Priapees constituent par la richesse de leurs jeux intertextuels, leurs effets de distanciation et, plus generalement, la maitrise de leur redacteur, un document precieux pour approfondir notre connaissance a la fois lexicale, linguistique, stylistique et culturelle de la litterature latine. Ces differents aspects de l’uvre sont analyses dans cette edition qui, fondant l’etablissement du texte sur un corpus largement etendu de manuscrits, en precise l’histoire, en eclaire les nombreux problemes d’interpretation, propose une traduction attachee a rendre les variations complexes d’un style trop souvent altere par la recherche d’un vulgarisme populaire outre et constitue la premiere edition francaise proprement scientifique des Priapees.
