English summary: Narrative exegesis is an important paradigm of more recent research on Mark’s gospel. One of the main research problems till now though has been bringing historic-critical methods and synchronic approaches together in a unified system of interpretation. The so-called cognitive turn in narratology points beyond a purely text-immanent analysis, allowing multifaceted interactions between recipient and narration to be described. In this study, Jan Ruggemeier presents an appropriate methodology and systematically traces the cognitive image the reader of Mark’s gospel progressively gains of the protagonists and how the individual perspectives of the characters influence his apprehension of the main character. The Marcan Christology thus shows itself to be emergent – Jesus’ identity is not revealed before the end of the narration and is based on text-external foreknowledge – particularly the confessional traditions – of the intended recipients. German description: Die narrative Exegese ist ein wichtiges Paradigma der neueren Markusforschung. Ein Grundproblem der Forschung war es bisher aber, historisch-kritische Methoden und synchrone Ansatze in ein Gesamtsystem der Interpretation zu uberfuhren. Die sogenannte “kognitive Wende” in der Narratologie weist uber eine rein textimmanente Analyse hinaus. Sie macht es moglich, die vielfaltigen Interaktionen zwischen Rezipient und Erzahlung zu beschreiben. Jan Ruggemeier stellt in seiner Studie eine entsprechende Methodik vor und zeichnet systematisch nach, welches kognitive Bild der Leser des Markusevangeliums im Lektureprozess vom Protagonisten gewinnt und wie die einzelnen Figurenperspektiven seine Wahrnehmung der Hauptfigur beeinflussen. Die markinische Christologie erweist sich dabei im Kern als emergent. Die Identitat Jesu erschliesst sich erst vom Ende der Erzahlung her und fusst auf dem textexternen Vorwissen – insbesondere den Bekenntnistraditionen – der intendierten Rezipienten. Diese Arbeit wurde mit dem Armin Schmitt Preis 2017 ausgezeichnet.
