Gebetsscham und Langeweile in der Moderne

Zum Gott der Philosophen kann man nicht beten. Die Philosophie seit Spinoza und Kant vermeidet das Thema des Gebets. Das naive Bittgebet gilt als unwurdig und beschamend. Philosophie darf nicht erbaulich sein. Frommigkeit scheint moderne Intellektuelle v.a. zu langweilen. Doch es gibt auch reaktionare Gegenstimmen wie Sen Kierkegaard und Franz von Baader, die eine Philosophie des Gebets entwickelt haben. Die Sinnspruche von Angelus Silesius evozieren eine Nahe des Gebets zur Lyrik. In diesem Essay geht es nicht einfach um eine Apologie des Betens, sondern auch darum, einige der tieferen geistigen und affektiven Motive, die das Beten storen und verhindern, zu untersuchen. Jean-Claude Wolf war von 1993 bis 2018 Ordinarius fur Ethik und politische Philosophie an der Universitat Misericorde in Freiburg in der Schweiz.
