Tombs represent an important source in the reconstruction of ancient communal structures. The landscape of Messinia in the southwest Peloponnese used to be one of the key regions of the Middle and Late Helladic culture of Greece (2100/2000-1200 BC). Based on a catalog of 57 sites featuring about 240 burial grounds, this monograph analyzes the topography of the tombs, their architectural form and the inventories of burial objects. Thus, the study contributes to a better understanding of social hierarchy and political change during this period of Greek history. German text.
