During the 19th century, the missionary endeavors of the churches – Protestant as well as Roman-Catholic and the Free Churches – were among the most important exponents of cultural exchange, building up self-image and public image within contact zone between Christianity and the religions of the “heathen” world. This study analyzes the stereotypical and theological-anthropological perceptions of “humanity” in the publication of the Basel Mission and puts them in context with the philosophical and theological discourse of their time.

German text. German description: Im 19. DE
