The focus of this commentary is the influence of the Book of Malachi, the last book in the Twelve Minor Prophets, on preceding prophetic writings, as well as the emergence of the Book of the Twelve as a whole and of Malachi in particular. While the supplements to its oldest literary manifestation are still relatively easily identifiable, their chronological classification is a great deal more difficult. Not only should they be able to assist in clarifying or explaining gaps or ambiguities in the text, they should also help shape it to fit a changing historical framework. A final summary examines the text’s theological contribution, while also examining critical issues, historical interpretation and current questions. German text.
English summary: Presenting the last book within the prophetic canon, this commentary focuses on the Book of Malachi’s relationship with the preceding prophetic scriptures, as well as the emergence of the Twelve Prophets as a whole and of Malachi in particular. While additions to the oldest, basic, literary layer can still be distinguished relatively reliably, a chronological classification of the same is much more difficult: on the one hand, the additions are intended to clarify or interpret gaps or ambiguities in the text, on the other hand, they adapt it to changing historical circumstances. A concluding synthesis deals with the theological results, and includes factual, historical, and current issues. German description: Im Fokus des Kommentars steht der Bezug von Maleachi als letzte Schrift des Zwolfprophetenbuchs auf die vorhergehenden Prophetenschriften; hinzu kommt die Entstehung des Dodekapropheton als Ganzes und von Maleachi im Besonderen. Wahrend sich die Zusatze zur altesten literarischen Grundschicht noch relativ sicher abheben lassen, ist eine chronologische Einordnung derselben dagegen schon deutlich schwieriger: einerseits sollen sie Lucken oder Unklarheiten im Maleachi-Text prazisieren oder ausdeuten, andererseits diesen auf gewandelte historische Rahmenbedingungen hin anpassen. Eine abschliessende Synthese fragt nach dem theologischen Ertrag, wobei auch sachkritische, auslegungsgeschichtliche und aktuelle Fragen behandelt werden.
