Origine e sviluppi della Prima Riforma

Il volume studia la fortuna di Huldrych Zwingli e il suo ruolo, centrale, per le vicende della Prima Riforma in Italia: e un periodo – suppergiu tra gli anni venti e quaranta del Cinquecento – scarsamente indagato, ma durante il quale non pochi furono convinti che pure al di qua delle Alpi fosse dato realizzare la Riforma della Chiesa e non vi erano ancora ragioni per ritenere che essa sarebbe invece fallita. L’opera e in due parti: una si concentra sugli anni in cui Zwingli era in vita, l’altra sui decenni successivi alla morte, allorche la sua eredita venne portata avanti da altri riformatori (Heinrich Bullinger su tutti). La ricerca tocca poi anche le perduranti ambizioni di vari zwingliani peninsulari che, riunitisi spesso in chiese, continuarono a credere che si potesse fare la rivoluzione, e farla ora, addirittura in Italia.
