De l'Italie du Quattrocento a l'Allemagne reformee en passant par Salamanque et en s'attardant dans la France du mos gallicus, ce phenomene intellectuel reprend les pratiques des philologues, applique une demarche historique et approfondit la connaissance du latin, du grec et de la rhetorique. S'opposant au moins partiellement aux methodes medievales de la glose et du commentaire, l'humanisme juridique a inscrit le droit dans l'encyclopedisme de la Renaissance et permis l'emergence de nouveaux cadres de pensee caracteristiques de la modernite occidentale.
