Tantot ligne, tantot cercle, ouverture ou cloture, support du point de fuite ou lieu chimerique, marque du fini ou resonance de l’infini, limite enveloppante ou abime vertigineux, les aspects apparemment contradictoires de l’horizon nous obligent a nous demander quelle est son unite. Le present ouvrage montre, a travers le role qu’il a joue dans des champs aussi differents que l’astronomie, l’histoire des grandes decouvertes et la representation de la perspective, comment il a servi d’appui dans la construction du monde.
