La ou Saussure s'attachait a theoriser la langue, la problematique phonologique est une problematique empirique d'integration de la phonie a la langue, fondee sur le double donne de la structure et du rapport entre son et sens. Aussi, loin d'instituer la scientificite de la linguistique, comme le crurent par exemple Levi-Strauss et Lacan, cette problematique, et avec elle le structuralisme linguistique dans son ensemble, fait-elle figure d'ideologie scientifique, au sens de Canguilhem.
