What is it meant by ‘Augustan myth’? The authors of this volume pose this question from different points of view, with an approach rooted in experiences and differentiated methods of study. The political and cultural action of Augustus is a particularly complex case study, which represents a privileged vantage point in order to define the concepts of power and culture that have been contrasted with the ‘Augustan model’ through the ages, making it an ideal reference point, an object of criticism or a polemical target. The authors of this volume are interested in seeing how the various components that form part of the Augustan myth may also function partially or fully autonomous, responding to individual pressures or to those of circumscribed groups motivated by their own purposes. This volume focuses on the perspective of the ‘construction site’ of the Augustan myth and on its most significant moments of its history in the early imperial period. Italian text.
