English summary: The Greek word kairos refers to a neurologic place within the body during the time of Homer. How then did it come to signify time in modern Greek. Monique Trede examines how the beginning of Greek science and scientific thought seized upon this concept in an attempt to measure and understand, seeing in this term a key to success.
