Der Sammelband “Islam und Staat in den Landern Sudostasiens” ist aus der gleichnamigen Tagung an der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universitat Frankfurt im Juni 2008 hervorgegangen und wurde um weitere Studien zum Thema erganzt. Die elf Beitrage untersuchen das oft komplexe Verhaltnis zwischen staatlichen Instanzen und Strukturen und den muslimischen gesellschaftlichen Akteuren in verschiedenen sudostasiatischen Staaten. Durch die breite Streuung der Untersuchungen – sowohl regional (Indonesien, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapur, Thailand und Birma) als auch auch inhaltlich (Studien auf der Makro- und Mikroebene) – gewahrt der von Fritz Schulze und Holger Warnk herausgegebene Band Einblicke in das komplexe Verhaltnis von Staat, Gesellschaft und islamischer Religion im kontemporaren Sudostasien und gibt Anregungen fur weitere Forschungen auf diesem Gebiet.
