L’Iran custodisce alcune delle piu antiche testimonianze della civilta umana. Qui, nell’antica Persia, sono nati grandi imperi le cui conquiste hanno abbracciato vaste regioni creando un ponte tra Est e Ovest. Di fronte a un Paese dal passato cosi illustre, questa guida adotta una prospettiva storico-archeologica, l’unica in grado di metterne in evidenza la straordinaria e incomparabile ricchezza. In queste pagine e proposta una scelta di siti “imperdibili”, suddivisi in quattro itinerari che si snodano in altrettante aree geografiche: l’Iran nord-occidentale, l’Iran occidentale, l’Iran sud-occidentale e l’Altopiano centrale. Sono privilegiati gli aspetti storico-artistici e archeologici, la descrizione dei luoghi, delle rimanenze in situ, di sculture, manufatti e collezioni museali. Ne emerge pian piano la storia di un’intera civilta che ha avuto contatti con tutto il mondo antico, vero e proprio crocevia tra Oriente e Occidente. Completano il quadro un utile “sguardo d’insieme” sul Paese, un’esaustiva introduzione storica e tre contributi che fanno luce sulla lunga e complessa vicenda religiosa dell’Iran: nel corso dei secoli infatti, oltre che con quella di diversi culti “orientali” (zoroastrismo in primis), la storia dell’Iran si e incrociata con le vicende legate ai tre grandi monoteismi: ebraismo, cristianesimo e islam.
