Ende der 1970er-Jahre erwachte weltweit eine Bewegung, die sich fur die Entstehung von Hospizeinrichtungen, Palliativstationen und ambulanten Palliativdiensten fur Sterbende einsetzte. Getragen wurde die Bewegung anfangs oft von Einzelnen und ihrer Leidenschaft, Vision und religiosen Motivation. 20 dieser in der Palliative Care engagierten Frauen und Manner von den Anfangen bis heute wurden auf Initiative des okumenischen Vereins Palliative Care und christliche Verantwortung fur den Band interviewt. Die daraus entstandenen Portrats zeichnen die Geschichte der Palliative Care in der Schweiz nach und greifen aktuelle Fragen wie die veranderte Situation in der Langzeitpflege oder die Begleitung Sterbender in der Gesellschaft auf. Freiwillige kommen ebenso zu Wort wie jene, die sich in Kirche und Wissenschaft professionell mit Palliative Care befassen. Die verschiedenen Stimmen regen an, daruber nachzudenken, wie chronisch kranke und sterbende Menschen in christlicher Verantwortung begleitet werden konnen.
