Not only the ground-breaking ideas of August Hermann Francke, founder of the Francke Foundations, fostered the worldwide success of Halle Pietism, but also the work of his individual colleagues and successors who held important key positions within the network of the Pietists. Based on the extensive source material preserved in the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) and in the Berlin State Library of Prussian Cultural Heritage, Christina Jetter-Staib is the first to publish a comprehensive biography of the Halle disciple and preacher Friedrich Michael Ziegenhagen. Holdings from Herrnhut, Stuttgart, Copenhagen, London, Oxford and Cambridge (in possession of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) and the Court Chapel) that have so far hardly been taken into consideration for research complement the evaluation of the correspondence and documents from Ziegenhagens estate. German text.
English summary: Not only the ground-breaking ideas of August Hermann Francke, founder of the Francke Foundations, fostered the worldwide success of Halle Pietism, but also the work of his individual colleagues and successors who held important key positions within the network of the Pietists. Holdings from Herrnhut, Stuttgart, Copenhagen, London, Oxford and Cambridge (in possession of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) and the Court Chapel) that have so far hardly been taken into consideration for research complement the evaluation of the correspondence and documents from Ziegenhagen’s estate.
