Der von Pierre Nora fur Frankreich entwickelte Begriff der “lieux de memoire” hat in den letzten Jahren europaweit viel Beachtung gefunden. “Erinnerungsorte” umfassen nicht nur Orte oder Bauwerke im engeren Sinne, sondern auch Ereignisse, Symbole, Personen und Begriffe, mit denen eine kollektive Erinnerung verknupft ist. Diese Erinnerung kann eine lange Dauer haben, ist in politische, soziale und kulturelle Gemeinschaften eingebettet und kann sich je nach Wahrnehmung, Akzeptanz, Ablehnung oder Neukonstruktion wandeln. Anknupfend an dieses Konzept werden Erinnerungsorte in Rheinland-Pfalz vorgestellt, wie sie unterschiedlicher nicht sein konnten. So werden Funktion, Memoria und Mythos des Doms zu Speyer und der im Trierer Dom aufbewahrte “Heilige Rock” ebenso auf ihre Bedeutung als “Erinnerungsorte” abgeklopft wie die “Jugendburg” Waldeck im Hunsruck als Aufbruchssymbol der Jugend und das Denkmal fur Kaiser Wilhelm I. am Deutschen Eck in Koblenz. Der Beitrag “Anna Seghers und Carl Zuckmayer in der Erinnerung der Mainzer” widmet sich “immateriellen Erinnerungsorten”. Mit dem Betzenberg in Kaiserslautern wird belegt, dass auch ein Fussballstadion zum Erinnerungsort werden kann.
