Der Tagungsband thematisiert eine der innovativsten und einflussreichsten protestantischen Gruppen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts. Die 1727 entstandene Herrnhuter Brudergemeine entwickelte sich unter der Leitung des Reichsgrafen Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700-1760) zu einem Avantgarde-Projekt des fruhneuzeitlichen Protestantismus in Europa. Dazu trugen wesentlich das fur andere Konfessionen offene Kirchenverstandnis, die Relativierung von Standes- und Geschlechterdifferenzen, neue Frommigkeitsformen und eine ausgepragte regionale und internationale Mobilitat bei. Der Band widmet sich der Geschichte und Wirkung der Herrnhuter Brudergemeine in Mittel-, Ost- und Nordeuropa sowie in Nord- und Sudamerika in einer bisher nicht gekannten fachlichen Breite. Die 35 Aufsatze des Bands versammeln in sechs Sektionen neben Theologie und Geschichtswissenschaften auch Beitrage aus Fachern wie Linguistik, Naturgeschichte, historische Geographie, Architektur, Musikwissenschaft und Digital Humanities.
